Precautions
Hand hygiene
Before starting the operation, medical staff or patients should wash their hands thoroughly or use alcohol disinfectant. Use the sterile gloves in the set to avoid direct contact with the catheter, needle or insertion site with unsterile hands.
01
Maintain a sterile environment
When opening the dialysis dressing package, make sure the contents of the package are always sterile. Avoid contact between gauze, dressings, needles, etc. and non-sterile surfaces during use. During the entire process of cleaning and changing dressings, avoid direct contact with the insertion site or catheter with your hands.
02
Clean the insertion site
Use the alcohol cotton pad or iodine cotton swab in the dialysis dressing package to carefully clean the insertion site and surrounding skin. When cleaning, use appropriate techniques, usually circling from the insertion site outward, which can prevent dirt from being pushed back into the wound.
03
Frequency of dressing changes
The insertion site of hemodialysis needs to be changed after each treatment. The catheter insertion site of peritoneal dialysis should be changed regularly (usually daily or as recommended by the doctor), especially when the dressing is wet, dirty or loose.
04
Check for signs of infection
Every time you change the dressing, check the insertion site for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, pus, pain, or abnormal secretions. If you find any abnormalities, you should contact your medical staff immediately. Dialysis patients have weak resistance, and infection control is very important.
05
Properly fix the dressing
Dialysis dressings should cover the insertion site firmly to ensure that they do not loosen or fall off. Using transparent waterproof dressings allows patients to keep the insertion site dry while bathing under the dressing.
06
Avoid excessive pressure
Dressings should not be too tight to avoid compressing blood vessels or catheters, affecting blood flow or causing discomfort. At the same time, the dressing should be tight enough to prevent bacteria or other contaminants from entering.
07
Waste disposal
Old dressings, used gauze, alcohol pads, etc. after replacement should be properly discarded in accordance with medical waste disposal requirements to prevent secondary contamination.
