Function

Stable fixation: The indwelling needle fixation device is mainly used to firmly fix the indwelling needle at the puncture site. It prevents the indwelling needle from moving, dislodging or being accidentally pulled out during the infusion process or in the patient's daily activities. This ensures that the infusion or medication delivery can proceed smoothly and continuously, avoiding the need for repeated punctures, which reduces patient discomfort and the risk of infection caused by multiple punctures.

Protect the puncture site: By providing proper fixation, it helps to reduce the friction and mechanical damage to the puncture site caused by the movement of the indwelling needle. This can minimize the occurrence of local complications such as phlebitis, bleeding, and hematoma at the puncture site, and promote the healing and recovery of the puncture site.

Types

Adhesive tape type: This is a common type of indwelling needle fixation device. It usually consists of medical adhesive tape with different shapes and sizes. The tape can be directly pasted on the skin around the puncture site to fix the indwelling needle hub and part of the tubing. Some adhesive tapes are designed with special patterns or cuts to better fit the shape of the needle and skin, providing better fixation and comfort. However, for patients with sensitive skin, adhesive tape may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions, so it needs to be used with caution.

Transparent dressing type: Transparent dressings are often made of materials such as polyurethane film. They not only have good adhesion but also allow for clear visualization of the puncture site. The transparent dressing can cover the indwelling needle and the surrounding skin area, providing a barrier to prevent external contamination while also allowing medical staff to easily observe the condition of the puncture site, such as the presence of redness, swelling, or exudate. Additionally, the dressing is breathable, which helps to reduce the occurrence of skin maceration.

Fixation bracket type: This type of fixation device is usually made of plastic or other rigid materials. It has a specific structure that can hold the indwelling needle in place. The fixation bracket can be adjusted to fit different body parts and indwelling needle models. It provides more stable and rigid fixation compared to adhesive tape or transparent dressings, especially suitable for patients who need long-term indwelling needles or those with a lot of movement, such as pediatric patients or patients with poor self-control.

Usage Method

Preparation: Before using the indwelling needle fixation device, ensure that the indwelling needle has been successfully inserted and the puncture site has been properly cleaned and disinfected. Select the appropriate type of fixation device according to the patient's condition, puncture site, and indwelling needle model.

Fixation operation:

For adhesive tape type: Cut an appropriate length of adhesive tape. First, fix the hub of the indwelling needle with one piece of tape, and then use additional tapes to fix the tubing in a proper position to prevent it from kinking or moving. Make sure the tape is pasted smoothly and firmly on the skin without wrinkles or bubbles.

For transparent dressing type: Peel off the backing paper of the transparent dressing, align it with the puncture site, and gently press it onto the skin to ensure that it adheres well around the indwelling needle. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles in the dressing to maintain its integrity and air permeability.

For fixation bracket type: Place the indwelling needle in the corresponding slot or holder of the fixation bracket, and adjust the position and tightness of the bracket according to the patient's needs. Secure the bracket to the patient's body part, such as the arm or hand, using straps or other fixing methods to ensure that the indwelling needle remains stable.

Check and adjustment: After fixing the indwelling needle, check whether the fixation device is in place and whether the indwelling needle is functioning properly. If necessary, make appropriate adjustments to ensure that the indwelling needle is fixed firmly and the infusion or medication delivery can proceed smoothly.

Precautions

Skin observation: Regularly check the skin condition under the fixation device, especially for patients with sensitive skin or those who are prone to allergic reactions. If skin redness, itching, rash, or other abnormal conditions are found, remove the fixation device in a timely manner and take appropriate treatment measures, such as changing the fixation method or using anti-allergic drugs.

Device integrity: Check the integrity of the fixation device regularly to ensure that it has not been damaged or loosened. If the adhesive tape loses its stickiness, the transparent dressing is damaged, or the fixation bracket is loose, replace or repair the fixation device immediately to prevent the indwelling needle from dislodging.

Patient comfort: Consider the patient's comfort during the use of the fixation device. Avoid excessive tightness of the fixation device, which may cause discomfort, affect blood circulation, or lead to skin pressure sores. At the same time, ensure that the patient can move freely within a certain range without affecting the fixation of the indwelling needle.

Sterility maintenance: When using the fixation device, pay attention to maintaining the sterility of the puncture site. Do not touch the puncture site or the indwelling needle with unclean hands or objects. If the fixation device becomes contaminated, replace it in a timely manner to prevent infection.
